Tipping Issues

  • Yes, you can tip in as many sports as you wish! Under the 'Tipping' tab on the menu bar at the top of screen, select the sport you wish to tip for.

Feel free to contact our support team if you have any further questions by clicking the 'Contact us' link below.

  • Tipping closes for each match at the scheduled time of commencement. So if the game starts at 7:00pm, you will be able to enter your tips right up until 6:59pm.

However, it is recommended that you allow enough time each week to make your selections as it will prevent you from being locked out.

  • If you are actively tipping in more than one sport, you will be defaulted on log in to the sport that you have indicated is your 'favourite sport' in the settings page of footytips.

You can change your favourite sport at any time via the Settings page, and you will then be default to that sport.

  • You can change tips right up until the game commencement time by going to the 'Tipping' tab in the menu at the top of the screen, and then change the tips you want to edit. They will be automatically saved.

You can also view what you have tipped here by selecting the round, or games which have the 'Tip Entered' message on the left of the round.

  • For each round you are required to select a 'margin' for one game. Simply enter in the amount you think your selected team will win by.

Please note, this must be a whole number e.g. 7 points and NOT a range such as 10-20 points.

Your weekly margin which you receive for the round is the distance between your selected margin and the actual margin for the game.

For example, if you pick Team A to beat Team B by 8 points and Team A wins by 5 points your weekly margin will be 3.

If Team A were to lose by 5 points, your predicted margin is added to the actual margin so your margin would be 8 plus 5, or 13.

Each round, your weekly margin is added to form your total or cumulative margin. Like in golf, a lower margin score is better than a higher one!

We use the margin system to rank tippers who share the same number of correct tips. Therefore, the lower your total margin is, the higher you will rank.

  • Unfortunately we are unable to change tips once they have been submitted and the match has commenced. Please ensure that you have submitted your tips correctly (refer to 'How to tip' help topic).

If the problem persists, someone else may be accessing your account so try resetting your password. To do this, click the 'My Account' tab at the top of the page, selecting 'My details', type in a new password and click 'Update'.

  • Firstly, make sure your email address is correct. You can do this by going to the 'My Account' tab in the menu at the top of the screen, then selecting 'My Details. Secondly, make sure you don't have any filters on your email to prevent the delivery of tips to your inbox, or that the email has gone to your spam or junk inboxes.

If you are still having issues, please feel free to contact our support team using the 'Contact us' link below.

  • To see what others have tipped go to your competition ladder. Under the 'Filter Ladders' subheading, select 'Who Tipped What' in the 'Ladder' drop-down box, and click 'Filter'. You can select which round you would like to view tips for by clicking the 'Round' drop-down bar.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to click the 'Contact us' link below.

  • Tipping odds are provided by PointsBet for AFL and NRL and provided by The Odds API company for all other sports across the site and app when available. If Odds are not available for a sport Footytips will display the percentage of users who have tipped for each team to help guide your selection.

You can choose to opt-out of viewing betting odds across the product by visiting the Communications and Preferences section of the Settings page. (edited)

  • In the overall site ladder, members receive the away teams for any game that has not been tipped, but there is a maximum score a player can get for this. To find out these maximum default scores click the 'How To Play' link below.

  • Select the sport you would to tip for from the 'Tipping' tab in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select your tips and then click 'Submit tips' to confirm that your tips have been entered.

Any tips that you place here automatically goes to any competitions you are in as well as the overall site ladder. This means if you are a member of numerous competitions, you only need to place your tips once.

  • The 'Streak' competition is determined by how many winning tips you can place in a row. You can tip as many or as little games per round as you would like - the trick is to only tip on games you are completely confident in.

To tip in 'Streak' go to the 'Tipping' tab in the top menu bar, select your sport, then under the 'Game' drop-down menu select 'Streak'. You can undo a tip by clicking the 'X' to the left of each game. When you do tip a message saying 'Tip Submitted' will appear as confirmation.

To turn on/off the 'Streak' option in your competition, an Admin goes to the competition page, then 'Settings', followed by 'Sports & Games', tick 'Streak' for the sport you are wanting to play on, and then click 'Update'.

  • In the 'Flexi' competition, you receive 100 points per round, and can spread these out over however many games you would like. The amount of points you place on it is multiplied by the odds for that team, and the points you have at the end of each round is the score that is reflected on the ladder. Each week your points are reset to 100.

To tip in 'Flexi' go to the 'Tipping' tab in the top menu bar, select your sport, then under the 'Game' drop-down menu select 'Flexi'. Select a team by clicking the circle icon beside their name, a pop-up will then appear below prompting you to select points, once you have done this click 'Submit'.

To turn on/off the 'Flexi' option in your competition, an Admin goes to the competition page, then 'Settings', followed by 'Sports & Games', tick 'Flexi' for the sport you are wanting to play on, and then click 'Update'.

Please note: If odds are unavailable for any reason, the default for a game will be $1 for each team.

Competition Issues

  • To create a new competition of your own, under the 'Competitions' tab in the menu bar at the top of the screen, click 'Create Comp'. You will then be required to fill in all your competition details and settings, including custom scoring, as well as inviting other tippers to join your competition. Bear in mind it is not possible to change the name at a later date, and that it will automatically roll over in following years if you wish to continue with the same members.

If you need assistance in this, please feel free to contact our support team by using the 'Contact us' link below.

  • To remove a member from the competition, you must be an Administrator. Going through the 'Competition' tab in the menu bar at the top of the screen, select your competition, then select the 'Members' tab found just above the competition ladder.

Find the member you wish to delete, and in their row you will see a number of icons - the 'X' symbol will remove this player from the competition.

If you experience any issues with this please feel free to contact our support team by using the 'Contact us' link below.

  • Only the Administrator can transfer their rights, or give rights, to another member. Go into your competition, click 'Settings', followed by 'Admin Rights' just below this, then use the drop-down bar titled 'Add/transfer admin rights' to select the member you wish to give rights to. After this select either 'Transfer Admin' or 'Make Assistant' and click the 'Add/Transfer' button.

Feel free to click the 'Contact us' link below if you need further assistance.

  • Hover your mouse over the 'Competitions' tab on the menu bar at the top of the screen, select the competition you would like to leave/delete. After this, click on the 'Settings' tab, then in the row directly below this there will be an option to 'Leave Comp' or 'Delete Comp'.

Leaving or deleting one competition will not affect your scores in other competitions or on the the overall site ladder.

If you have any issues with this, feel free to contact our support team by using the 'Contact us' link below.

  • If you have won the prize for a competition with mates, please contact the administrator for details on how to collect your reward.

If you have won a prize for your place on the overall site ladder, you will be contacted by a member of our team shortly with full details.

For any other enquiries, please contact our support team by using the 'Contact us' link below.

  • Yes, your competition administrator can edit your tips, however only if you allow it. This is done by clicking 'Settings' in the competition page, then 'My Preferences', select 'Yes' to 'Allow the administrator to enter & edit my tips?' and make sure to click 'Update'.

If you are an administrator, you will see those who have enabled this under the 'Members' tab of the competition. You will be able to 'Enter Scores' for future tips if the member is unable to themselves, or 'Adjust Scores' for the past - however this will only affect their scores in the individual competition, not the overall site ladder.

You can only adjust scores for a user once they have tipped in a round which has passed. For example, if a user joins a competition in Round 3, having not tipped the previous rounds, their scores for Round 1 & 2 can be adjusted after Round 3, given that they tip in Round 3.

  • To invite people to a competition, select the 'Invites' tab in your competition page. You can either share your comp URL directly, or enter their email addresses.

If you would like to set a password or be reminded what your password is, just click on the 'Settings' tab of your competition to see your password, or click 'Edit Name & Access' to make your competition private and set a password.

If the competition is set to private make sure you let others know the competition password.

Feel free to click the 'Contact us' link below if you need any further assistance.

  • To join a competition, the administrator of the competition will have to send you an invite, either by sending you the URL or an email using the 'Invite' tab of the competition page from their account. Once you receive this, you will be taken directly to the competition.

Alternatively, under the 'Competitions' tab in the menu at the top of screen, select 'Search Comp' if you already have been given the name.

Feel free to click the 'Contact us' link below if any further assistance is needed.

  • You can send a member of a competition a message by going to the 'Members' tab, then selecting the envelope icon which will appear in the row besides their name.

To send a message to all members at once, click on the 'Messaging' tab on the competition page and follow the prompts.

If you have any further issues, please feel free to contact our support team by clicking the 'Contact us' link below.

  • Any competition created automatically rolls over to the following year. The competition will have the same members and there is no need to re-invite them, however the ladder will only appear once the season has begun. It is not possible to change the name of a competition.

Feel free to contact our support team using the 'Contact us' link below if you have any further questions.

  • You can join a competition at any point throughout the season. For past rounds, you will receive default tips of all the Away teams, with a maximum score which is specific to each sport.

To find out these maximum scores, click the 'How To Play' link below. For example, in NRL, the maximum score is 5, so if 6 away teams have won in the round, you will still receive a score of 5.

Please be aware you will receive this score for the overall site ladder, but in an individual competition the Admin has the choice of leaving this as the default score for not tipping, or using the custom scoring options which are described in the 'No Tips Entered' link below.

  • If members are not showing up in your ladder, this would usually mean they have not tipped in the sport yet. If they have not tipped, they will not appear in the ladder until at least one game has occurred that they have tipped in. Otherwise, they may be on another page of the ladder if you have many tipsters in the competition.

If you still can't see their name after checking this, please feel free to contact our Support team by clicking 'Contact Us' below.

  • When you tip, the tips that you place go to all competitions that you are in - you can't tip differently between different competitions. This is to make sure people are not entering competitions, including the overall site-wide competition, multiple times with different tips.

  • The score on results emails you receive, and on the 'Tipping' page is for the site-wide competition. In this competition, there are no joker rounds and you receive Away teams for missing tips.

This can be different to the score in your competition due to jokers you may have played, or because the Admin has set it so instead of receiving the Away teams for missed tips, you may be getting zero points or the lowest score amongst the other members. Hover your mouse over 'Competitions' in the menu bar, select the competition, and then above the ladder click 'Read Rules' (or 'Edit Settings' if you are the Admin) to read about your competition rules in more detail.

Custom Competition Scoring

  • Custom scores can be added to your competition by the administrator only. Under the 'Settings' tab select 'Ladders & Scoring', then scroll down and select 'Yes, include custom scoring'.

For more details on custom scoring options, refer to the other help topics.

  • Competition administrators choose to have between 1 and 5 jokers and can choose to specify the rounds they are used in, or to let members choose themselves. Once played, the joker will double the score for the round it is used on.

Administrators can set Joker rounds completely by going to the competitions 'Settings' tab, then clicking 'Ladders & Scoring' in the row below, making sure that 'Yes, include custom scoring' is selected, and then scrolling down to the 'Joker Rounds' options.

If you choose to let members choose their own joker rounds, they can set this using the 'Set Joker' button which appears above the competition ladder on the 'Ladder' tab.

  • The All Correct Bonus is a custom scoring feature that rewards tipsters who tip a perfect round (i.e. 8 correct from 8 matches) with between 1 to 5 bonus points, depending on what the administrator has chosen.

As an administrator, you can set this option by going to your competition's 'Settings' tab, then selecting 'Ladders & Scoring', scrolling down and selecting 'Yes, include custom scoring', then scroll further down and select your settings for the All Correct Bonus. This setting can be introduced at any point throughout the season, however if it is removed the ladder will be re-processed without bonus scores.

If you have any further questions, feel free to click the 'Contact us' link below.

  • The default score not tipping is to receive the away teams with a maximum. The maximum scores are listed in the 'How To Play' link below - for example, the maximum score in AFL is 5.

An Admin can choose their own default by going to the competition page, selecting 'Settings', then 'Ladders & Scoring', typing in a 'Ladder Name' of your choice and selecting 'Yes, include custom scoring'.

You can choose to give a score of 0, or the away teams, average or lowest competition scores with an adjustment.

  • Custom margin options can be set by the administrator by going to the 'Settings' of the competition, selecting 'Ladders & Scoring', scrolling down and selecting 'Yes, include custom scoring', and then scrolling down to the 'Rankings & Margins' options.

Feel free to contact our support team if you have any questions by clicking the 'Contact us' link below.
